Getting Back On The Horse
...after a chaotic finals season
The essays and papers and packing up my dorm room are over, and now I can get back to the hobbies I haven’t had time for. I can also make avocado toast in the mornings, eat strawberries from the farmer’s market, and watch Let’s Make A Deal. It feels good.
In a week, I’ll be traveling to the midwest for a summer internship! More details will be in next month’s substack, but here’s a one word hint: zines.
Writing Updates
I’m working on the eleventh chapter on GOG, where the necromancy gang learns about how ghosts behave. It’s full of rivals/haters to lovers goodness because it’s from Cass’s POV and she is sitting right next to Katherine. The difficult part about this chapter is the amount of necromancy-related worldbuilding I find myself having to come up with on the spot. I take quite a few pauses and leave tons of bracketed phrases [like this] when I can’t think of something. But! I can usually rely on my character sheets to help me figure out what Cass, Katherine, or anyone else should do next. It’s a lifesaver when you don’t know what’s going with the plot.
It feels good to be back to writing daily. I want to get back to writing for an entire hour per day, but I know that will take at least another week. Either way, I’m having fun and learning new things about my characters and the world I’ve created.
A Little More On Rejections
So, last month I wrote about rejections. I’ve gotten another rejection recently, which reminded me that I forgot to post a fun little black out poem I made from one of my rejections.
Long Story Short…
What I’m Watching: Gossip Girl, Let’s Make A Deal, Jeopardy Masters, and Celebrity Jeopardy. I’m also watching the latest season of The Floor with my family.
What I’m Reading: Now that I’ve read Paradise Lost without having a faith crisis, I feel more equipped to continue reading Angels Before Man by Rafael Nicolás. I’ve read about a chapter or two, starting from where I left off (about halfway through).
In other news, I have an AO3 account and I am reading an absolutely fantastic Disco Elysium fanfiction. It occurs post-canon, and Harry Du Bois has a beautiful arc of getting better and reckoning with his past. Also: Kim Kitsuragi POV! And mutual pining! This fic is truly the perfect way to unwind after a long day.
What I’m Listening To: Send A Prayer My Way by Julien Baker and Torres, Forever Is A Feeling by Lucy Dacus, and Pure Heroine by Lorde. I heard some old songs from Lorde during my SiriusXM free trial. When she announced her upcoming album, I figured it was time to listen to her discography. Great decision on my part!
